Here are some photographs i have taken of the H&M store in Newcastle.

When researching H&M i was looking at particular styles, cuts and fabrics. I done background research into the the latest A/w trends straight from the catwalk and could see a clear link between designer to hightstreet. The main trends this season are-

  • 1920s
  • 1940s
  • 1950s- hollywood glamour
  • Faux fur
  • The Tailored Blazor

In H&M there was alot of 1920's box pleat skirts inspired by Dries Van Outen A/W collection. Long ankle and knee length skirts in nude and pastel colours were seen throughout the store. 1940's styled garments were reflected in vintage floral prints and Chiffon shirts,. Designers that where inspired by the 1940s where Miu Miu and Jonathan Saunders and elements of their collections are seen in store. This season is all about emphasis on the femal form, long pencil skirts, blazers with strong shoulders nipped in at the waist with a belt to give a feminine sillouette this autumn.

Colour palletes are mixed this season with neutrals and bright colours as well as toned down pastels- Mullberry was inspiration for this colour palette.

  • Metallics
  • Black
  • White
  • Copper

Key fabrics in H&M stores include:

  •  Mohair
  • Angora
  • Supple Leather
  • Cotton
  • Poloyester

A/W had a varietry of different knits and prints.  'Outdoorsy' prints such as reindeers, snowflakes and buffalos are printed onto knitted jumpers, Long cable knit jupmers were teamed with belts to give a more stylized femine look this winter.- Rag and Bone, D&G inspired these clothes.

Glamour for the party season- 50s styled dresses and corsets, knit with sequins and metalics- old school glamour.  As seen Below, Catwalk inspiration for the metallic and sequined A/W Season.

Coats- long masculine panelled coats, toggle coats and faux fur coats.

Both the A/W 2011 and the S/S 2012 collections were hits with the critics. A “watershed moment” as Style.com called it.  Donatella took the house heritage of baroque patterns and made them simple and graphic, while for spring she went all white and golden studs. The Collection is sexy, fresh and vibrant and lives up to Versaces' ellaborate and unique style.
